I don't really understand what's going on here, but it sounds like he's claiming that by running this process on the molecule, it can no longer be patented. He was struggling with [alcoholism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Watts#Death_and_legacy) and had some sort of heart condition. It sounds like there's a good chance his death was suicide or euthanasia (unclear how sick he really was). I went through a phase where I had a lot of heterodox ideas on scientific topics. I now mostly think I was fooling myself and am much more careful about updating away from the consensus view. It's less fun, but I think my beliefs are more accurate.
