## [Twitter: "These molecules are now open source, since I won't/can't patent them."](https://twitter.com/wagieeacc/status/1687137621699436552)
Is Martin Shkreli now trolling for good? I don't really understand what's going on here, but it sounds like he's claiming that by running this process on the molecule, it can no longer be patented. If so, good for him.
## [Twitter: "The way Alan Watts has summarized his life in his autobiography is heartbreaking"](https://twitter.com/AlphaMinus2/status/1687525727116152848)
> As I look back I could be inclined to feel that I have lived a sloppy, inconsiderate, wasteful, cowardly, and undisciplined life, only getting away with it by having a certain charm and a big gift of the gab... A realistic look at myself, aged fifty-seven, tells me that, that's what I am, and shall doubtless continue to be.
I had no idea that Watts led such a troubled life at the end. He was struggling with [alcoholism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Watts#Death_and_legacy) and had some sort of heart condition. It sounds like there's a good chance his death was suicide or euthanasia (unclear how sick he really was).
In an interview, his son had this to say:
> Â I realized that, as I look more carefully, that my father had actually been ill for some time, and that he was aware of, very aware of, his mortality and impending problems, and who knows, he may have actually done something to hasten his death, or, we don't know, but he was very aware that... he was going to pass on, and he planned for it
And his wife had this to say:
> His wife, Mary Jane Watts, wrote later in a letter that Watts had said to her "The secret of life is knowing when to stop".

Being a contrarian is fun. I went through a phase where I had a lot of heterodox ideas on scientific topics. I now mostly think I was fooling myself and am much more careful about updating away from the consensus view. It's less fun, but I think my beliefs are more accurate.
