Usually with a caption like “The first photo shows heart surgeon Dr. Zbigniew Religa resting after performing the first successful heart transplant in Poland. The surgery took 23 hours. His assistant can be seen sleeping in the corner. The second photo shows the still-living patient, 30 years later.”
But is it true? [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zbigniew_Religa) has this to say about the famous photos.
> According to one of Religa's closest associates, Marian Zembala, the photo doesn't show Żytkiewicz. They analyzed the photo and surgery plan and established that Żytkiewicz's surgery took place two hours later in different operating room. The patient in the photo died during transplantation.
